The short version

F8t is designed to keep your data on your device. We don't collect, store, or sell your personal information. We collect anonymous usage analytics and crash reports to improve the app.

Data that stays on your device

All of the following data is stored locally on your iPhone and never sent to our servers:

• Equipment profiles (cameras, lenses, films, filters, flashes)
• Shot log entries and roll history
• Shooting statistics and insights
• App preferences and settings
• GPS coordinates attached to shot log entries
• Reference photos saved to your shot log

Camera

F8t uses your iPhone camera solely to measure ambient light for exposure calculation. Camera data is processed in real-time on your device and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Location

If you grant location permission, GPS coordinates are attached to your shot log entries for your reference and used to calculate sun position (sunrise, sunset, golden and blue hour). Location data is stored locally on your device and is never sent to external servers.

Photos

If you grant photo library permission, F8t can save reference photos and info cards (with embedded EXIF metadata) to your camera roll. We do not access, read, or upload your existing photos.

LiDAR and depth measurements

On iPhone models with a LiDAR scanner, F8t uses the depth sensor to measure subject distance for depth-of-field and flash calculations. Depth data is processed on-device only and is never transmitted, stored, or shared.

Analytics

F8t uses PostHog for anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand which features are used and improve the app. PostHog collects:

• Anonymous event data (e.g. "shot logged", "roll created") with no personally identifiable information
• Device type and app version
• Session recordings in wireframe mode (no actual screenshots, all images and text inputs are masked)

PostHog data is processed on EU servers (eu.posthog.com). We do not collect your name, email, or any personal identifiers through analytics. No data is shared with advertisers or sold to third parties. We do not perform cross-app or cross-website tracking.

Our website (f8t.app) also uses PostHog for page view analytics.

Crash reports

If F8t crashes, an anonymous crash report (stack trace, device model, iOS version, app version) is sent via PostHog so we can fix the bug. Crash reports do not contain your personal data, location, photos, or app content.

Third-party services

F8t uses Apple's StoreKit for in-app purchases. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction. We do not receive your payment information.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the following rights:

• Access: request a copy of any data we hold about you (note: most data stays on your device and we never see it)
• Deletion: ask us to delete data we hold; you can delete on-device data instantly via Settings → Reset All Data
• Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Portability: export your data in CSV or PDF from within the app
• Objection: opt out of analytics in Settings → Analytics
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Data export and deletion

You can export your data at any time via CSV or PDF from within the app. To delete on-device data, go to Settings → Reset All Data. Uninstalling the app removes all local data; analytics and crash reports we have already received are retained anonymously per PostHog's retention policy.

Children's privacy

F8t is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data to us, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
